So here are my first attempts at using the digital camera my studio mate lent me. Some pictures of my space and some things I've made recently. The watermelon necklace I finished this afternoon. The idea for it came to me in a light bulb moment, inspiration from God. I love it, it's so cute. I'm going to make knitting patterns for other fruit as well. I bought some yellow and brown yarn today for just that. I added a little stuffing so that it keeps it's shape and I think adds to it's cuteness.

photography
I've been thinking about my photography lately. I haven't gotten any developed since we moved to Florida. I have 7 rolls I need to take somewhere. I heard of a few local labs I'm gonna check out soon. This summer I cataloged my film negatives. Most of them. A few I'm sure are still hidden amongst the unorganized art supplies. For the first time this summer I've felt a desire to pursue having my stuff up in local coffee shops and in galleries. I've never done either with my photos. But I think I'm ready. Not quite sure how to go about that. But I've buit up a small portfolio.
Lately I've been thinking about getting my etsy stores back up since we got our new studio space. I have a list of things that I need and want to dive into that. One of which I think is pretty necessary is a digital camera. Today one of my studio mates asked us today if we could make a photographing station for stuff some us want to sell on etsy and ebay. He'll provide the digital camera, flash & umbrella, tripod, etc. We just figure out the settings, the best setup, most productive photographing station for everyone to use and prove so with good photos of some sample items and in exchange he'll give me a Pentax Spotmatic with two lenses. This is such a blessing since I've been needing a way to take pictures to get my etsy back up and rolling and for blogging. I hate using instagram pictures, but it is all I have, unless I take a film picture, get it developed and scanned to post it online.

mini animal creations
I've been posted up in my chair and on the couch the past few days sewing these little animals by hand whilst watching Gilmore Girls. For Jamin's and My wedding anniversary Jamin had this idea to get ourselves a couple books that we've been wanting. I got Under Wildwood the second book in the Wildwood Chronicles written by the lead singer of the Decemberists Collin Meloy and his wife Carson Ellis illustrated it. The illustrations are awesome & beautiful. The other book I got at Barnes and Nobles was how to make Stuffed Animals by Sian Keegan. It's totally inspired me to make little stuffed animals to be used as jewelry to satisfy the the little kid in me. I've also been inspired to get back into sewing after taking about a year break from it, being interested in other things that I focused on like jewelry making and painting & drawing. I started brain storming on accessories patterns clutches and coin purses. I met a girl recently, Sheila, the girl who is the main artist at the studio warehouse that Jamin and I are joining. She makes these abstract leather collage bags. So i'm going to try my hand at sewing with leather. I've drawn up the pattern for a simple rounded bottom clutch and I altered my ribbon wallet pattern to make it out of leather. I'm excited to get our studio space set up and getting things rollin. Now I just need to get a Gocco machine, digital camera, get my sewing machine and serger fixed, design and order more fabric, get the film I've shot since May developed.

Studio Space
Yep. You know what that means, or maybe not, but i'm going to tell you anyways. But let me start at the beginning. Jamin got this leading not two days ago about getting a studio space because he is easily distracted by our second bedroom studio space being too close to home, actually in our home and it is only so many steps to the couch when distracted and just a lean to the remote. you get the idea, productivity down the drain, you realize a week later from an occasion like this and you remember "Oh yeah remember that second bedroom studio space just a couple steps away, remember painting in there last week. Oh yeah it can get bad". So we got invited by some friends to attend this fashion photography gallery show in this kind of humanitarian, coffee shop with a purpose, artist collection of people who run the place who happen to all be believers in Christ, place that hosts all of these cool artist and musician events all the time called Downtown Credo and the coffee will rock your world and is bought by donation and serves a purpose. "Sweet, huh" Anyways, so we went to this show and socialized with friends, standing around and talking and Jamin happened upon some people we had never met before Sheila and Chester these two fellow artists and collaborators in starting this new warehouse collective of artist studios. We ended up checking the place out last night and we are going to join getting a corner space by a window for natural light. By next sunday we will officially have an away from home studio space to go and create at once we take my desk and some bookshelves and art supplies over, it will be our new productive inspiring home away from home! This is so cool. It makes me feel like this new chapter has started that God has been leading us towards, greatly influenced by our new home of creative believers City Beautiful. It feels so professional and adult and motivating and influencing ambition to have this new blessing of a studio space that both Jamin and I can use. This means I'm back, back in the drivers seat of perusing my art in it's many forms for more than just myself, by myself at home. To be in a place where we can be inspired by the artistic people working around us. I've dreamed about this since I happened

new photos

recently I've added more photos to my etsy store. thought i'd share which ones are new to the store. i just dropped off 7 rolls of 35mm and 3 rolls of 120 film the other day from the camping trip jamin and i took to Michigan in october. Can't wait to pick them up, i remember trying to capture mushroom pictures and playing with the aperture/shutter speed settings. hoping some of them turned out. It will be the first bunch of film i've developed since i dropped my camera at ACL. i don't think it was damaged but, we'll see when i pick them up sometime next week when i get paid.

mushroom necklace

I've made a few of these. I alter it every time. This time i made two of the same size mushrooms. I'm thinking of selling these in different colors when i decide on which design(s) i like. thinking the same size mushrooms look a little off. Maybe more mushrooms all in a line & different sizes. We'll see, just wanted to share todays work.

more fabric designs
I've been thinking about and designing fabric lately and orders four more of my designs from spoonflower. What do you think, have a favorite? I'm thinking of selling them by the yard/bandana neckerchief style & maybe some sewing once I get my room in order, to sew, more bookshelves should do the trick. like the colors? anyways, i'll try to make it to the pharmacy and drop the ACL film off before I go to work.

first spoonflower order
I sold a few things recently through my vintage store Triangle Vintage and I have been wanting to do this for a while now. But today I actually did it. I made my first order from spoonflower. I was inspired by a few fellow etsyans who have designed and used their own fabrics Callie Helen's BEAM textiles and Leah Duncan's textiles and Leah Goren and gretchenmist. I started with a yard with a drawing of mine and three 8x8 squares of my photographs.

first photograph sale

I sold my first photograph today. kind of exciting. smile worthy. Thank you, God. I need to finish organizing my studio/bedroom so that I can easily work on my other crafts like knitting & knitwear design, jewelry making and crafting (in particularly boutonnieres). I made some for my friends wedding a year ago and still have a lot of supplies for it and really enjoyed making them. I also haven't really sewn in a while. I need to get my favorite sewing machine and serger fixed.

Busy bee
I've been busy with my two etsy stores latley. eveneve where i'm selling my photography prints and triangle vintage where i'm selling my vintage finds. I work retail right now and it kind of bites. I like how working a job you don't care for makes you rely on God while your at work more consciously. But sometimes i just don't want to waist my precious life being a cog in corporate materialism. It's like that "Switchfoot" song "gone" lyrics "time was never money". I've been going through my photo inventory and posting my favorite in my etsy eveneve store. As an incentive I'm offering FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING with code KICKOFF at checkout!.
Last year i took my holga 135BC camera to ACL. I'm not sure which one I want to take to ACL this year or what to take pictures of there. Maybe my yashica but it is kind of heavy to lug around all day being on the brink of heat exhaustion. But this year i'm prepared as much as i can be for the sun. I got this wide brim gardening hat from a local convenient store and I ordered a neck cooler from etsy like the ones they used to have at festivals when i was in elementary school. I'm gonna be kind of quirky, but thats ok. as long as i don't feel like i'm dying from the sun. which i had a moment like that last year. I hope it is less crowded too, we'll see. i guess i'm getting older.

new posting trick
i figured out how to with one click from my toolbar post a picture on flickr onto my tumblr with a link back to flickr and a label of what the picture is called and who posted it. i use share on the google toolbar and click on tumblr and then it sets it all up and all you have to click on is post and then the window closes after posting. sweet. less work. now if only it would leave a comment that i posted their photo on my tumblr i'd be set.

I'm starting a vintage store

I'm starting a vintage online store through etsy. So far I've just set it up and named it. It took a while to come up with a name that I like that wasn't taken. And so it is named Triangle Vintage. Because triangles are awesome and the three points and sides are in threes but one shape like the trinity, three in one. It's gonna include a lot of floral items 60's & 70's mainly house stuff, kitchen, mugs, sheets, some clothes. I'm really picky, so I'll only be selling things that I myself would buy but if you have any vintage style or item preferences tell me and I'll be on the look out.
You can check it out so far Triangle Vintage at etsy
