Baby knitting for friend

Just finished this project last night. An original, geometric & native American inspired design. Knitted "Moccasin" baby booties with a purl triangle trim around cuff that wraps around ankle with two Chinese knot closures to secure in place with some knitted fringe. I originally (first time I made this bootie design) used tie closures where you tie bows but the Chinese knot seems more practical. Thanks God. The hat I made with a lined rim and matching triangle detail. I love how they turned out.

went to see Dikes of Holland the other night at mohawk. awesome as always, i brought with me my fuji instax 210 beast of a camera. the thing is this massive modern instant camera. i wish fuji could get the polaroid camera design down. but the pictures turn out great in dark lighting with the auto flash that can't be turned off. the fuji instax wide film is an 800 iso. they play again at emo's in austin texas 12/22 @ 9pm.

Ingredients

1 1/2 – 2 lbs chicken breast
1 cup white wine (any white wine works, I used Sauvignon Blanc)
3/4 cup light cream
1 tbs Dijon mustard (Grey Poupon works the best)
olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

1.Cook the chicken with olive oil, salt and pepper in a skillet on high heat until golden brown.
2.When chicken is browned, add wine and continue to cook on high heat until wine is reduced by half.
3.After wine is reduced, add cream and bring temperature down to medium heat to allow sauce to thicken.
4.As sauce thickens, stir in Dijon Mustard.
5.Once the sauce is thick turn off heat and serve over rice

i've really been missing this dish, i haven't made this version yet but i posted it here so that i wouldn't loose it and now have to make it.

went to a freakin fun show last night "Battles" played at this relatively new emo's east side venue off of riverside. Their music is so tight, check them out. You may already know their "ice cream" song.

I brought my polaroid camera with some impossible project black and white film and took come pictures. Got a sweet one of the drum set and a good one of the keyboardist/guitarist Ian Williams. wish i could post a picture of the picture but i gave it to him. Wanted to meet the drummer but he didn't come out after the show was over.

A Winter's Tale

I photographed Austin's Present Company theatre's Shakespeare On The Farm production of A Winter's Tale last night. They produce free shakespeare plays for all on an urban farm where you can bring your blanket, chair, picnic and drink. If you'd like to help support them bringing free shakespeare to Ausitn, Texas they have a kickstarter donation page that they still need $400 in the next 36 hours to reach their goal to get any of the money. More photos of the production are up on my flickr.

movies and Austin theater

We've seen some movies lately. All of them were wonderful. Especially Restless that we saw last night. It was the last showing of the day for the film and we had the whole theater to ourselves. It was awesome like we had rented the whole thing to watch it ourselves except it cost less. I recommend that you see all of these. All different feelings and all great in their own ways.

And if you are in Austin, TX. I invite you to come see the last weekend of a local play of Shakespeare's "A Winter's Tale" here is the facebook invite for it . It will be thursday, friday and saturday evening at 7pm. It is held on an urban farm "Rain Lily farm" on the east side, off of shady lane. Bring chairs and a blanket, a picnic and BYOB and enjoy a FREE night of Shakespeare. I've seen it almost every night they have had it so far, it is really enjoyable.

Favorite Memories

this is awesome. the first one that came to mind was when i was 13 I went to not back to school camp in Oregon. a few memories from this are at the end of the camp we went to the coast and the oregon coast has these tall cliff islands just yards away from the coast. A group of us climbed up one and down the other side where the waves were crashing up against the rocks to where the water was spraying us but to where the tide didn't carry me away. Another one was these two older girls befriended me and we swam up this river where the sides and bottom where lined with smooth boulders and the water was still and cold and 1/2 mile down the river one of the boulders was sticking up out of the water maybe 4 inches in the middle of the river and there were maybe 50 raspberries laying on the rock and the girls told me fairies had put the raspberries there and we ate them.

I sold a few things recently through my vintage store Triangle Vintage and I have been wanting to do this for a while now. But today I actually did it. I made my first order from spoonflower. I was inspired by a few fellow etsyans who have designed and used their own fabrics Callie Helen's BEAM textiles and Leah Duncan's textiles and Leah Goren and gretchenmist. I started with a yard with a drawing of mine and three 8x8 squares of my photographs.

I sold my first photograph today. kind of exciting. smile worthy. Thank you, God. I need to finish organizing my studio/bedroom so that I can easily work on my other crafts like knitting & knitwear design, jewelry making and crafting (in particularly boutonnieres). I made some for my friends wedding a year ago and still have a lot of supplies for it and really enjoyed making them. I also haven't really sewn in a while. I need to get my favorite sewing machine and serger fixed.

Downtown Austin farmers market

these are some photos I took at the downtown Austin farmers market this summer. I really like this market. It has shade. None of the others have shade or trees. They are all in parking lots, but the downtown one is in a city block park which is nice. Plus there is this pizza stand there at the market with a wood burning oven that makes this homemade syrup soda. My favorite is the pineapple and basil, the peach is pretty good too. They just add their homemade syrup to sparkling water and ice and presto. I bought my dwarf peach tree at this market. Ahh, those peaches were good.

I've been busy with my two etsy stores latley. eveneve where i'm selling my photography prints and triangle vintage where i'm selling my vintage finds. I work retail right now and it kind of bites. I like how working a job you don't care for makes you rely on God while your at work more consciously. But sometimes i just don't want to waist my precious life being a cog in corporate materialism. It's like that "Switchfoot" song "gone" lyrics "time was never money". I've been going through my photo inventory and posting my favorite in my etsy eveneve store. Last year i took my holga 135BC camera to ACL. I'm not sure which one I want to take to ACL this year or what to take pictures of there. Maybe my yashica but it is kind of heavy to lug around all day being on the brink of heat exhaustion. But this year i'm prepared as much as i can be for the sun. I got this wide brim gardening hat from a local convenient store and I ordered a neck cooler from etsy like the ones they used to have at festivals when i was in elementary school. I'm gonna be kind of quirky, but thats ok. as long as i don't feel like i'm dying from the sun. which i had a moment like that last year. I hope it is less crowded too, we'll see. i guess i'm getting older.

I've been going to garden nurserys a lot lately. these are some pictures from my favorite neighborhood nursery plantescapes austin, texas. I think i've fixed the comment problem on my other blog agardencontained.wordpress.com so that it should be easier to leave a comment for windows users. (wordpress is apparently easier for macs) (i wouldn't have started a wordpress blog if i knew i was going to have problems). anyways... my garden is doing well. these were some pictures from the 6 rolls of film i got developed recently, some of the rolls were from april. i really need to get some mosquito deterrer for my garden so my neighbors and i stop getting eaten alive. i still carry around my yashica camera around with me always. My tie dye backpack i use as a purse always has my camera, bible, planner, extra film and currently game boy with pokemon heart gold and it would have knitting in it but one of our cats ate one of my nice wood knitting needles recently and i haven't sanded it back to a point yet. i'll post some more new pictures soon, until then i'll be watching friends, playing pokmen and gardening. i'm such an introvert child adult.

Pushing Daisies’ Pear Gruyère Pie from blondie and brownie

Pushing Daisies is one of my favorite shows on television. It's sweet, it's smart, it's funny. Oh, and it features an adorable piemaker and delicious pies. Mmm...pies... I made my very first Pushing Daisies inspired Apple Gruyère pie last month for the 5th Annual Brooklyn Pie Social. Then I made it again later that week with bacon to celebrate the premiere of the show's second season. The other night I was re-watching the episode where the Apple Gruyère appeared and I realized that it wasn't an Apple Gruyère pie at all. It was a Pear Gruyère Pie. Now there's a long tradition of pairing apples with cheese, but pear and gruyère?! Now this was something I had to try...

The recipe I originally followed when I made this as an Apple Gruyère pie came from The Rice and Spice Cupboard. To make the Pear Gruyère pie, I played with the crust a little bit adding in an ounce more gruyère pie. Yum. For the poached pear, filling I relied on advice from mom and a little bit of freestyling. Hope you enjoy!

Pear Gruyère Pie

Makes one 9 to 10 inch pear pie

Gruyère Pie Crust:
2 1/2 c. unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp. sugar
20 tbsp. unsalted butter, cut into 1 in pieces
3 oz. Gruyère, grated finely
6-7 tbsp. ice water

Whisk together the flour, salt, sugar and grated gruyere in a large mixing bowl. Using a food processor, mix butter and flour/cheese mixture until the largest butter chunks are the size of large peas.

Remove flour/cheese/butter mixture from food processor return it to the large mixing bowl. Sprinkle ice water over flour in increments of one tablespoon, toss with fork after each addition. Be careful not to add too much water. You can get an even water distribution by adding putting the water in one of those spritzer bottles. When dough begins to clump together as you stir, test the dough by squeezing it in your hands, if it forms in a lump then gather the rest of the dough together into two separate disks, leaving one slightly larger than the other. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. Or if you are in a rush, toss the dough in the freezer for about an hour, when it's solid yet still gives slightly under your touch, it's ready to go.

Spiced Poached Pear Pie Filling:
3 lbs. Bartlett pears
1/4 c. white sugar
3/4 c. port wine
1 1/2 c. water
2 tsp. cornstarch
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp clove
1 cinnamon stick

1 egg, lightly beaten (for crust)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Add sugar, wine, water, vanilla, cinnamon stick, ginger, nutmeg and clove into a large stock pot or dutch oven. Bring to a boil. Put an empty medium bowl into the freezer to chill.

Peel and halve pears. Scoop the core and seeds out and then cut the halves in half. Once liquid mixture has come to a boil add cut pears. Simmer for about 20 minutes until the pears are tender.

Using a slotted spoon remove the pear quarters from the poaching liquid and put them into the chilled bowl.

Return the poaching liquid to a boil and reduce until you have about 3/4 of a cup of syrup. Add 2 teaspoons of cornstarch to the syrup to thicken the syrup further. Pour the syrup into a measuring cup and chill.

In the meantime, roll the larger piece of dough into a circle around fourteen inches in diameter. I roll out the dough between two pieces of plastic wrap to keep it from sticking. Peel off one side of the plastic wrap and center that side of the dough in the pie plate then remove the other sheet of plastic wrap.

Remove the pears from the chilled bowl layer them into the bottom of the pie. Pour the syrup on top of the pears.

Roll out the slightly smaller dough dish into circle around twelve inches in diameter. Place this dough round on top of the pie. Seal the crusts together using a fork or your fingers. Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg, and make three parallel slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Or if you are feeling fancy pantsy, feel free to make decorative cutouts.

Put the pie on a cookie sheet to catch any drips--I like to cover my cookie sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil to minimize the mess. Put the pie in the oven, bake until the crust is golden and you can see the filling bubble up between the slits in the crust, about 30 to 40 minutes. Cool and serve with vanilla ice cream.

Now I'm new to this pie baking thing, but this pie was abso-freaking-lutely delicious. Really, really good. The extra gruyère and all that butter made the crust super tender and flakey. This recipe is definitely a keeper.

we went to a cactus sale at the botanical gardens today. i didn't know the garden was free. good to know, i want to go back. I got four small beautiful cacti. took a few photos, but it was inside so as always, we'll see. we walked around the grounds for a few before going to the movies. took some pictures of the rose garden. i love roses lately. We saw the source code. not my kind of movie, but good. then we went to baker's street , great fried fish and buffalo wings & then half priced, picked up a few great cloth cover books. one with triangles on it :) and a nice green one about fishing with some nice pictures of fishing lures & 2 more classic disney movies. We've lately decided that we'd like to own our childhood classics on vhs. now to watch Hercules.

a lazy day with my hubby. woke up at 4am perused flickr and tumblr which made me spend most of the morning in bed napping. Ate gyros and hummus at a local Lebanese restaurant and then went to my favorite thrift store on the way home. Scored some sheet and pillow cases and a Polaroid camera that takes 600 film. another nap and some picking up and reading harry potter and soon to be ready stouffer's corn souffle.

I really love instant pictures although I'm not that great at taking instant pictures yet they enchant me. especially all those impossible project films, polaroid cameras & expired polaroid film & polaroid backs to lomo cameras. All of which i asked for but alas my parents think it's a joke because it is so expensive. It's silly really and unimportant but i still hint at things i'd like for my birthday and christmas like a little child but being young poor, happy & in love can't justify spending money on when we are paying off debt and on top of how much money i spend on regular film and developing. but i can still admire it for now from afar and I'm sure at some point not so far.

anyways my loving husband tuned into my wanting an instant camera and got me the fuji instax 210 a massive camera back at christmas. i haven't used it much and still need to get the hang of it. i think it would be cool to maybe use color filters with it over the lens /flash. it seems to have good light outside.

yesterday I took my first round of posed object photos.

my light meter which I'm not sure is correct and i think is set to 200 ISO because there is no ISO changing on it just what i think are called Ev numbers 1 through 10 and a dial for whatever number the Ev is you turn the dial so the arrow points at that number and it gives you a f stop and shutter speed.

anyways all inside photos said Ev= between 0 and 1. so we'll see.

woke up at dawn to see the blue light starting to sift through the window curtains moving in the breeze. the light brightened for a while before i fell back asleep but then woke up at 11am. That seems late to me.

I've been getting such wonderful feedback on my photos through flickr and tumblr. This is one of the favorites right now. The more people like my pictures the more it encourages me to take pictures. ah, my human struggle with praise from others.

I think I want to start trying to take posed pictures of things like trinkets and toys, antique store items. I'd like to take pictures of our cats in posed pictures, but they don't like it and won't stay. I need to invest in a tripod but they seem so overpriced for a piece of plastic and metal.

I made coffee again today. Coffee, flickr and fruits basket on the tele. I'm not british, but think it is cute to say tele instead of tv.

i guess i have a lot of lazy days lately, i'm tryling to make an effort to do something with them. like what would i do if i didn't work and all my days were like this. Right now i feel i have a good balance of work and my own time. thanks God.

It feels like the light around this rose today. That overcast cloudy misty day that makes such a beautiful green.

I got up this morning and checked out my flickr it gives me a motivation boost when people have favorited my photos and posted comments and posted on tumblr or reblogged on tumblr. I'll check out the tumblr sites that have blogged a picture of ine and usually find some talented flickr people to add to my contacts list.

Made some coffee today, it felt like a coffee day, i've been drinking solely hot tea for a month or so now. I love my japanese hot drink disenser (not sure what it is called which isn't saying much since i forget regular english words all the time). to describe it, it is large... well, tall, it spins on the bottom like a lazy susan, the inside is glass, the outside is metal, on top of the handle is a plastic part that bends back and turns into a pump to pump out the drink inside through a spout. well the car broke down yesterday. The stick shift only goes into 3rd and 4tha dn reverse is now 1st gear. But it is just a car so no big deal just an inconvience and money. But God has kept my peace about it. Which i'm thankful for. no reason to worry or fret they do no good or acomplish anything just praise God for a new day and his sovrienty. I don't know his plans but he does and i'm ok with that.

Maybe not the best thing to be happy about but i got the day off. I'm going to get the car towed to a mechanic for a diagnosis and watch avatar the last airbender cartoon series. I vacumed the kitty covered floor which always makes me happy, clean floors. Maybe scan some photos into the computer and upload them onto flickr. Get into the word (bible ESV) the translation I prefer but it is also fun to read the same part from multiple translations to get a better picture. Maybe paint or draw or play wii fit. So many options.

I think spring is my favorite season. It encourages open windows and reorganizing & cleaning your living space.
I finally went to ikea last week and picked up some frames for art i bought at last years renegade craft fair & some vintage paper items from an antique mall, a niagara falls postcard that reminded me of Wonderfalls because it shows a girl going over the falls in a canoe and says indian sacrifice sounds kind of iffy but looks like a screen printed music poster and a neat 50's coloring illustrated yukon map & a few abbytryagain photos I picked up at the We heart Handmade Art event. Now all framed, makes the living room feel more put together.

i've never read that book love languages but heard of it from others. Some are words of affirmation others touch & some gifts. There are other love languages but i've noticed mine to give is different than mine to receive. I try against my human nature to put very little weight in things, they are just objects even sentimental things and very few things last forever. But I get a lot of joy to see someones face light up like a child to receive something that they really like.

So I got an opportunity the other day to get a vinyl at SXSW from a denton band called seryn that my husband absolutely loves, i really like them too but had never had the opportunity to see them live, they are awesome by the way. I can get caught up in silly disappointment when i plan on doing something like go to a show and get there and am told nothing but badge holders are getting in like last year. So I set out on my own on thursday and knew where the first stop was. I helped an out of town band on the bus figure out how to get back to where they were staying. I wish i would have asked what they were called but i didn't think of it till i'd already walked a block away from the bus. When i got there figured out the band i wanted to see was the next day, 1 free grilled veggie taco & 1 free way too sweet hard punch later i start walking towards 6th street stopped in to hear a band from Chicago and continued to walk till what do i hear but this awesomeness. catchy indie folk that builds in grandiose like the climax in a story and makes you want to inhale and smile. It was of course Seryn rockin out hard. They said they had just received their first batch of vinyl and as it turns out i bought the first one ever and after the show ran around getting all their autographs as they were taking down to give to my husband who had to work all the days of south by.

ah the monday after "south by" or for you not local to austin "sxsw". Ate some yummy sushi this afternoon with my hubby at banzai. Dropped off some film, picked up some film. The usual. I've kind of been recruited to take pictures for a play Jamin is going to be in. The property has this giant tee pee on it that is pretty fun.

today after my husband left on a 5 day trip to a children's ministry conference in Minneapolis i went by Precision camera to pic up and drop off as usual, I'm trying to cut down on going there daily which i have been known to do, but to make it weekly but these photos i needed to pic up for Jamin's involvement in the first Present Company theater production of Much Ado About Nothing. They asked me to be their photographer for the show from rehearsals to the show. We had taken the group shots for the show the other day so i went to go pick them up and stopped in Family thrift on my way home a little detour but your know, i wanted some sheets which they had none, I was a little disappointed so i looked around and found in a plastic grab bag of toys this awesomely cute monkey from blabla a knitting company i've in love with since i got a coin purse of theirs at a christmas fair in Mississippi back in 04. So yay, i've a new friend, His name is Wally George. I also picked up a thick class beer mug all for just over $2. considering wally George the monkey aka Blabla Doll Monkey Mozart runs for $46 i feel proud. He's me new pal. this post may seem weird to you but i appreciate my childlike ability to give inanimate objects personalities and think of them as friends.

a recipe Abby Try Again came up with and I want to try it soon, so i'm posting here to not forget or loose it.

3/4 cup oats
1/2 ww pastry flour
1/2t of baking soda

3/4c yogurt
1/4 milk
drop of honey
1 egg
2 tbsp melted butter
1 tbsp water

Mix wet together well-barely combine with dry. Proceed to pancake making as usual, add a handful of frozen berries before you flip. More than enough for two.

i made some bread for the first time the other day. I made two loaves and my friend Emily made two. It has a little bit a sugar in them so they are slightly sweet. So told me she uses this recipe for sandwich bread. We ate some with butter which was a perfect pairing with the spaghetti we had for dinner.

Bread Recipe :)
warm bowl w/ hot water; dry.
2 cups flour
2 1/4 teaspoons instant dry yeast
stir together for 30 seconds (to activate yeast)
add 1 teaspoon salt, 5 teaspoons sugar and mix.
add 1 cup warm water, 1/4 c milk & 5 teaspoons oil.
Mix, then add 1/2 cup flour (up to 1 1/2 cup flour), 1/4 cup at a time, until the dough is the right consistency. (you can substitute oatmeal if you wish for some of the flour.)

Kneed for 10 minutes. Cover and let rise until about double in size (about one hour). [We forgot to warm the bowl that our dough was in so we placed the covered bowls of dough in the oven on the lowest setting to activate the yeast, this speeds up the rising process to under an hour].

Punch down (10 to 15 times press fist into dough) .On floured surface spread dough into a rectangle 6" x 8", then roll up and place in bread pan with the roll up seam side down in the pan. Bake at 400 degrees F, for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

A really cool technique her and her husband showed me is that when you put your bread in the oven throw a third to half a cup of hot water in the bottom of the oven 3 times in 30 second increments, this hardens and browns the crust, like European bread.

ok so 4 hours after my husband and i left the store i started having harsh buyers remorse for the not so high tech digital camera and called almost in tears to see if i could return it and they said to come in. I went back to the store entirely embarrassed to be a nuisance for buying and then returning a camera in the same day but anyways after my 5th "I'm sorry & i feel stupid" I got my $380 gift certificate that will be going towards film and processing and in the moment bought a holga 120N in blooze bros. blue. I thought I'd want the jawz one at first but the blue just stuck with me so i adopted a new baby camera and carried it home. Haven't loaded it yet but now i feel better. I think a part of me was terrified I'd stop using film to the extent i use it now and it just wasn't taking photos like my film cameras do so bye bye d70s so long and hello holga 120. ah sigh of relief from large spending on something that wasn't what i wanted (the thing is, i didn't pray in the moment about the purchase and ended up settling and regreting my purchase) and calmness returns.

my husband bought me a digital camera today. It's an older one a Nikon D70s, but it's a start. Got it used at the local precision camera. I want to use it at shows along with my film cameras. Just something to play around with and get to know. Since it would be helpful financially and in the long run i want to take more live music pictures digitally i just don't know how to get what i want digitally yet since i just got it today, but yay, new toy :) This picture was taken with a holga prism (or split image) filter in front of the lens.

I've gotten this motivation surge to take more live music photography, i'd forgotten since it has been cold my love for live music had become hazy. ok, more like lazy. But completely a love of mine, my husband and i share the love of live music. So we've been to three shows in the recent past.

"Bosque Brown" & "Sarah Jaffe" at The Ghost Room. I've really liked Sarah Jaffe since her ep came out now she has two cds. She seems to be going in a more hip hop influenced direction which i can enjoy but isn't why i like her so we'll see when her next cd comes out. Bosque Brown was beautiful. I'd never heard of her before this show but totally down my ally, really chill acoustic singer songwriter folk music and she appears to be Christian which is always a delight and encouragement when a christian can succeed outside of coffee houses.

"Young Prisms", "Ringo Deathstarr", "Melted Toys", "Speculator", "Pure Ecstasy"(Pure X) at indoor Emo's. My favorites this night were Pure X and melted toys although we went to see young prisms ringo deathstarr who were way too loud that my husband and I braced the freezing weather outside clinging to each other for warmth over having our eardrums ruptured. They weren't very nice to Young Prisms for going over into 1am and scaring off half the croud for loudness. Pure X was chill atmospheric synthesised music that would be good for working on something while just chillin around the house listing too. Melted Toys looked and sounded like they were from the 80's but not all neon plastic more navy and black their music was dance but not techno. I liked them and wished they had vinyl.

And "The Black and White Years" at Antone's. We wanted to see them play the other day at lambert's but it sold out, disappointed about the tiny venue but i'm happy for them selling out. Always a great show they went from having these florescent lights in the background like at independent(an austin venue) to having a guy project neon colored computer generated patterns onto them in front of a projector screen or white wall. It looks really cool. Always a lot of energy coming from the stage they are fun to watch and their fans throw it back at them dancing and bobbing heads to the beat. They just came out with a new album which is pretty fun to jam in the car, it's called "Patterns" you should check it out..
We picked up some vinyl from Bosque Brown, Young Prisms and Pure X & a cassette tape from melted toys.

i figured out how to with one click from my toolbar post a picture on flickr onto my tumblr with a link back to flickr and a label of what the picture is called and who posted it. i use share on the google toolbar and click on tumblr and then it sets it all up and all you have to click on is post and then the window closes after posting. sweet. less work. now if only it would leave a comment that i posted their photo on my tumblr i'd be set.

It's because i was afraid that all the pictures I had put in with photo corners would fall out so i taped them in with masking tape and it the job looks kind of crappy but the pictures are good.

Went to the Barton Creek Farmers Market again this morning. It's my favorite right now. Picked up some 1 dozen organic free range eggs, pecan granola, faerie tea (which consists of red clover, rose, jasmine & lavender) it's pretty, stocked up on frozen Indian meals & Naan bread, a loaf of whole wheat bread & some blackberry and blueberry Greek yogurt.

It's all rainy today but i still took pictures at the market with my yashica camera. I need to finish the roll before I get that one developed but i droped off two rolls at the pharmacy that i can pick up later today.

work has slowed down and i find myself with free days. making a nest on the floor surrounding myself with projects. My friends birthday gift that still has a ways to go it feels like. rolls of film i should walk over to the drug store to get developed but I feel I should achieve something at home first before I allow myself to go and it is bitter cold outside. an instant coco package from last nights mobile loaves and fished run where we ran out of food & clothes at the first stop. I really need to learn Spanish. we need more shoes, a few kids had no socks or shoes on and were standing in line in the dark and freezing weather. and I thought my feet were cold. I had long lost feeling in my toes. note: toms not good freezing weather shoes also chucks/converse. My notebook project i need to finish sewing one letter on and send it off, post marked by 15th, got to mail that today. a roll of sea foam green tape to keep my place in a knitting book. 9 balls of yarn in zip-loc bags, knitting needles, safety kid scissors. micron pen size 02. chap stick. a list of apertures and shutter speeds of photos. a jar of honey. toms shoe boxes of gouache and ink. my yashica camera, bible and measuring tape, computer...

Here are some pictures from my flickr photostream from the first roll from my new yashica tl-electro camera. I think this is the starting of a good friendship. I love trying out new cameras. I'm really happy with it. I still need to tinker with the settings. The lens has different apertures and the camera has a dile for differrent timed shutter speeds.
My advice if you decide that you wish to buy a camera off of ebay is don't bid on it if it says that they don't know if it works. this camera was the second one I got off ebay. But I didn't bid much on either. And now I have two lenses, a shutter release cord, remote trigger (although for a lefty) & 6 rolls of film from 1993.

I'm finishing up my sketchbook project today. I'm scanning all of the pictures. My first round of scanning my art. I need to replace all of the old illustration pictures in my flickr that were pictures taken of the drawings, so not that great of quality. And now i can use the scans to make prints, sweet. A project that has taken me like 3 years now. Well progress is being made. I only drew like 7 drawings in the sketchbook so I'm adding some past drawings in with those photo corners that stick to the page. It was fun, I'm just kind of ADD about my interests. I have to be in the mood to do them. And with so many interests stuff progresses kind of slowly if it isn't my main interest of the hour.

my friend Adrienne is so creative with wrapping presents, I just wanted to share this with you. Inside I was blessed with a calendar she made for her family for christmas, but i got one too, they're awesome, i love her art. She made it so you can hang up her lovely calendar with the two little clothes pins and the bit of string that look like decoration on the outside of the package. so sweet.

I noticed she liked wiksten and odette's collaboration on an arrow necklace a few months back and thought she'd appreciate it. She had a huge grin when she notice what it was, so i think she liked it.

As far a Jamin and I we bought ourselves presents with each other. Jamin a small bodied acoustic guitar a "little martin". We really like the sound this kind of guitar gives for the band "Blind Pilot"

They are awesome you should check them out if you haven't already. They've been in my top three since I saw them sxsw 2009. They also make me want to learn how to play the dulcimer.

I got pro flickr for two years and a vintage camera from 1972 a yashica tl-electro, sweet. My favorite photo blogger "Abby try again" camera. She uses a different lens that she's never told what it is. But I've seen other peoples tl-electro model yashica's and they still have the same softness and blue tinge to them, so I'm excited to take my first roll today, having the day off, and maybe post some later.

I love how photography to me is similar to primitive camping. There is a trusting God factor that is much more present in my consciousness when I'm in the wild than when I'm going about my daily routine where it is easy to be on auto pilot through our day on a schedule choosing weather or not to help people if it is convenient to our schedule. When real love is inconvenient most of the time. I feel lead to strive to help and fill the needs of people I see, mainly panhandlers and homeless, because those are the people that God has put in my path, even though i fail often, i wish not too, i wish to be more selfless. It's a life long journey, righteousness, that to His glory won't be complete till I'm in heaven. So I shall seek God's glory everyday, by being in His word, praying for the salvation of my loved ones and people around me and fruits of the Spirit for myself and others "love, joy , peace, patients, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control" but anyways i like how like in camping you have to trust God because there are dangers in camping in photography God is in control of what your pictures turn out as, how you capture visually what He has created physically. And the sharing of His love of creation with us by us creating art. There is joy in making things. That God allowed us to capture in that moment.

Got some film back from the lab yesterday, this is my favorite pic from the bunch. It's from our 7.28 mile hike at lost pines state park. I'm very much a stroller type walker, walk, take picture, walk, look at bird, walk, look at trees, walk, take break. You get the picture. So on our hike a lot of people ran & walked past us. It took all day. From around noon till sunset. It was amazing. I loved it. It's one of my dreams to one day live in a RV trailer (preferably or in dreaming it can be anything i want but specifically an Eco friendly modern design and natural wood built, kitchen and bathroom unnecessary (maybe just a hot plate for inside tea on rainy days)) on a state park.

good morning. I woke up early one morning as the sun was rising making everything look golden and pink. I walked over to the lake to find wisps of fog on the bank of the lake traveling to this cloud that was resting on the opposite shadow covered shore. Within an hour the beautiful scene was gone to be replaced with clear and bright. God is wondrous. Such beauty He has created.

A few months back when they started selling the boyfriend flanel shirts at Urban Outfitters I bought myself a white bent corners holga 35 mm camera and have been carying it around in my purse/backpack every since. The next addition was a diana f+ camera because I really like my friend Adrienne's photos she's taken with hers. They come out dreamy and foggy and soft where the holga produces bright saturated good double exposures.

So my canvas backpack is slightly heavier but I'm used to. I'm one of those large bag girls who has something to read usually my esv bible and the current young adult fantasy searies I'm reading "the Search For Wondla" & the 7th Harry Potter book again, a sketchbook, a size assortment of black micron pens, my current knitting project in a cloth bag, i-pod, pocket wallet, agenda planner. It's enough, keeps me busy when any free time should produce itself in the form of a 15min or lunch hour or bus ride...

I've taken to checking daily some photo blogs I enjoy "abby try again" "fieldguided" "souvenirs" and this one isn't photos for photos sake but photos this girls sewn/kitted items "wiksten made"

This is my favorite garter stitch booties pattern I've found so far. I've only made one so far and I still need to weave in the ends and make the button holes and add buttons. But I love it. It keeps it's form on it's own. I love that. I'm working a lot this week but hope to finish this pair of booties within the week with all of it's details done and post pictures.

Here are some baby booties creations I've come up with in the past 2 weeks. the left one is a lined overlapping cuff, the middle designed to look like a moccasin and the right a simple Mary Jane. All knit in the round in one piece. I really prefer to avoid sewn seams up. I like to keep my knitting and sewing separate. Some helpful details i used to make these were the Kitchener stitch & the button hole loop.

I've been negative about even thinking about thinking when we might possibly have kids and what it would be like and how we would react to the info. We don't plan on it any time soon but I can't help but think about it since I know 6 expecting couples 2 of which already had their babies this month. 2 more in october and the other 2 I'm not sure. But two of the girls are my two good friends from the town i lived in before this one. And with their baby showers coming up and me about to head up on a road trip to visit them i've gotten a little excited for them in my baby shopping and making baby stuff for them. I've been knitting a blanket for one and didn't want the other one to feel left out because I meant to make them both blankets but it was taking so long i lost interest and started making jewelry for a while but I knitted some today. I started and finished a pair of booties today. I found the pattern on ravelry, free pdf "Baby Janes by Valerie Johnson". It is a good simple fast pattern. I'd like to find one though that requires no sewing up parts. The under part of the shoe needed sewing together.

I've always gotten excited about the idea of making a book. Not just binding one but writing a story and illustrating it. I've never thought of writing a novel just short stories like my class did in 4th grade or this poetry program I was in in 8th grade. I love the weird stories kids come up with but have doubt in my ability to still have that kind of imagination where there aren't reality limits to your story. I wish I was a better illustrator but oh well. I got was I was given and peace in that. I got this idea today when I saw an artist little zine story book today and my mind stated to think about what kind of story i would write. First it was like well what am I doing right now and what is in my house then what are my routines like, neighborhood; then what stories have I written about in the past. I was never very good at coming up with the full written story just the idea of the story that was like the book synopsis; and then the weird stories I'd write during writing time in 4th grade inspired by hallmark ghost stories cassettes that they only carried during Halloween but my mom would buy for me to take to camp the next year. And then I got this awesome idea of illustrating some Bible chapters, new testament mainly. Like the meat on a sheet (Acts 10), The Parable of the Sower (Mathew 13), The Conversion of Saul (Acts 9). These are very visual to me although most of the Bible is.

I'm starting a vintage online store through etsy. So far I've just set it up and named it. It took a while to come up with a name that I like that wasn't taken. And so it is named Triangle Vintage. Because triangles are awesome and the three points and sides are in threes but one shape like the trinity, three in one. It's gonna include a lot of floral items 60's & 70's mainly house stuff, kitchen, mugs, sheets, some clothes. I'm really picky, so I'll only be selling things that I myself would buy but if you have any vintage style or item preferences tell me and I'll be on the look out.

adding leather

I'm adding leather to the materials I use to make my necklaces. So far I've only made two things with leather. I want the leather to be either leaves or feathers. I'm not sure what to do to the leather to add the detail so it isn't just the outline shape which is what I have so far for one and the other one I sewed a line through the middle. but I know I don't want to tie a knot behind the leather. So I could start with the middle of the necklace string being at the bottom of the leaf detail and sew up and the ends would be the normal ends of the necklace. I could cut the detail out but I'm not sure how the leather would hang after that, but I could try. And the other one I though about was use a wood burner to add detail, but I'm really not sure how that would turn out or just skor it.

guess what?! I sold the coral Indian necklace on my etsy shop! Yay! Such an awesome feeling. Praise the LORD! God is good! Now I feel like I can go bead shopping again, maybe. I've made a pact with myself to not buy anything, material possession wise for two paychecks and I got paid today so for another 2 weeks. And to be better/more deliberate in paying off debt (student loan & credit card). So I've decided $250 of each paycheck goes to that. It was Gods leading, like instantaneously feeling the need to do this like a week ago. So I have a plan and with Gods help in the self control area to pay off our credit card & student loan in a year. Which when it is finished will I'm sure feel awesome. I'm happy with my packaging of the necklace I sold. I decorated it at the post office with drawings of feather leaves and I threw in an extra something. It's a surprise, but I felt lead to do so. So, maybe it will lead to more sales, I don't know, but being generous feels nice. I feel that when you have the idea to so more for someone or not, you should do more and God will bless you with joy. So, yay! God also gave me the opportunity to eat lunch with a homeless man named Stewart so if you would like to pray for him, thank you.

I remember a while back seeing a post on craftster.org about someone using glue and gauze (or a similar thin large weave fabric) to make screen prints. So in remembering and trying to quench my boredom I took one of my drawing with not that much detail and lines that weren't that close together, a piece of gauze, a 4" diameter embroidery hoop. With the picture in a protective plastic sleeve I placed the hoop secured gauze placing the front of the hoop down on the drawing and painted with mod podge and a size 0 brush all of the white space of my drawing. Let it dry and took some block printing ink and an ink spatula and spread it around the backside of the fabric/hoop while it was on a piece of watercolor paper. And the print in the picture is how it turned out. Some of the drawing was covered slightly by the glue but I couldn't tell until I printed it. It turned out good enough to try to make cards this way. i think bold type would come out nicer than a drawing. The drawing turned out OK. Some of the finer areas of the drawing turned out pixelated by the cloth which i thought was cool. A fun little quick one day project.

I made a bracelet. My first since I can remember or since I started making jewelry again. It caught on the gas pump today and broke off. sad. but in memory of it here is a picture before is broke.

I'm not quite sure what to call the shape of the long bottom middle bead, a spear, pointed long, arrowhead (kind of)? This is the second necklace I've made today after another bead shopping day. Silk string, stone beads, knotted string to stabilize beads in place.
